Karl Lagerfeld, the Renaissance man (finale)

It is interesting to know, since 1970 Karl Lagerfeld has worked as a costume designer for some theatrical productions. He has worked with Luca Ronconi and Jurgen Flimm. He has worked for La Scala in Milan, Burgtheater in Vienna, and for Salzburg Festival.

He is as good with photography as he is with everything else, though his entry into the world of photography was out of his frustration with professional photographers, during his campaign shoots.

About photography he says:“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”

“I do my job like I breathe-so if I can’t breathe I’m in trouble.” KL

“One is never overdressed in a little black dress.” KL

“I am like a caricature of myself, and I like that. It is like a mask. And for me the carnival of Venice lasts all year long.” KL

“I like today and perhaps a little future still, but the past is really something I’m not interested in. So, as far as I am concerned, I like only the past of things and people I don’t know. When I know, I don’t care because I knew how it was.” KL

Karl at home:
“We need houses as we need clothes, architecture stimulates fashion. It’s like hunger and thirst-you need them both.” KL
“Books are a hard-bound drug with no danger of an overdose. I am the happy victim of books.” KL
“With every book you buy, you should buy the time to read it.” KL
“Change is the healthiest way to survive.” KL
“Apparently, I am very scary. But if you get to know me, you see I am very nice. Happily, I don’t look like I am.” KL
