A beautiful Hollywood home

In the February 2011 issue of Traditional Home magazine, this beautiful Spanish style Hollywood home is worth sharing. The house was built in 1928, by architect Gerard Colcord, it is currently owned by Hollywood director John Pasquin and actress JoBeth Williams. The Interior designer is Madeline Stuart.

Let's talk tapestries!

Tapestries have been used for centuries to decorate walls, the oldest tapestry samples date back to 3rd century BC. However in 14th century AD starting from Germany and Switzerland, tapestry weaving reached a new level in Europe.

One reason of their use was because of ease of transportation, when the kings and nobleman moved from one castle to other, they would roll the tapestries and take them along. Apart from decorative purposes, tapestries were used to insulate walls in cold winters.

We may not need them for insulation these days, but their decorative use is still going strong.

Indian Summer Antiquing (Part II)

A lot has changed since I wrote part I of Indian Summer antiquing. The temperature is 73 degree cooler, we are trying to dig out of snow. The snow drifts are up to 5 foot tall at places, it is 3F, with wind chills at -16F. 

How ever, warmth and memories of a beautiful Saturday are still fresh. Here are some pictures of the second place we visited, The Broadway Antiques, on Broadway, in Downtown Edmond, OK.  This is a place with a lot of Americana, vintage and some European antiques. I have found some very nice pieces here.

It's a snow day!

This is Oklahoma, unpredictable, we were sunny and 76F on Saturday, we are in a blizzard with 6F today. Fun, isn't it!

Indian summer antiquing.....(part I)

Today, we had wonderful weather in central Oklahoma, after so many cold and dreary days, all of a sudden we are in upper seventies. The afternoon turned out to be beautiful, two of us went out for a drive, but ended up visiting our favorite antique places in town.

First stop was Courtyard Antiques,  it is Steve & Barbara Nix's 6000 sq. ft. wonderland of fine European antiques and accessories. If you think you can't find a "Trumeaux" or an antique "French commode" in Oklahoma, please think again, Steve has so many, you will have a hard time deciding which one to get.

Here are some pictures I took today, but pictures do not justify the amazing collection they have, a visit to Courtyard Antiques is a must. They are located at 3314 S. Broadway Edmond, Oklahoma.
