Dead Poet's Society

1989 movie Dead Poet’s Society was directed by Peter Weir, starring Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, Gale Hansen, Norman Lloyd. Though Roger Ebert gave it only 2 stars, the movie won Academy award for Best Original Screenplay (Tom Schulman) as well as nominations for Best Actor in a leading role (Robin Williams), Best Director and best picture. The movie also won BAFTA for Best Film and Best Original Film Score. Made on a budget of $16.4 million it grossed $235.8 million.

Based on Tom Schulman’s life at the Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, the story is about an English teacher (Robin Williams) at a Vermont Prep School, Welton Academy, who inspires his students through poetry.

I have always enjoyed this movie; if you have not seen it and get a chance do watch it.

  1. Hello:
In our view this is an iconic film with Robin Williams giving an absolutely stunning performance throughout. We love it and have lost count of how many times we have now seen it. Yes, we totally agree, a must see film!

  2. Jane and Lance, we too have seen this movie countless times and it is worth seeing it. It is interesting to know how all of us who have the same tastes and likes and dislikes have come together throug this world of blogging :)

    1. Yes, we find it endlessly interesting how there is, even in the virtual world, some sort of 'selection' procedure in operation where one is drawn to kindred spirits. This is something we too discussed with Paul and Gil when they were staying with us. Even when one is in contact with many in the Blogosphere, it is surprising how one recognises, and there are not that many, those with whom one shares an affinity.

  3. You are absolutely right. I feel so fortunate to know you and my other friends on blogosphere and cherish our friendship.

    Best wishes

  4. I love this film, Robin William's best in my opinion. It has been awhile since I last watched, will have to again soon.

  5. It is worth watching again and again :)

    Best wishes
