My friend Richard bought a 1957 Ford Fairlane Coupe about a year back. In the past year the car has won numerous awards in car shows around the state. Interestingly though we both are members of Mercedes Benz club of America and meet often, but I did not have a chance to see the car in person.
Few days back Richard asked me if I could do a painting of his Ford. Since it was not possible for the car to do sessions with me while I do its portrait, I had to photograph it and use those photographs to do the painting. This weekend I went to photograph the car, after that Richard took me for a drive in the beautiful car. It was a unique experience. The car rides so smooth and the V8 engine has so much power that on the turnpike it drove like a dream.

Hello:
ReplyDeleteThis is no ordinary car!!!Indeed, it looks like a way of life to us, totally reflecting those 'rockabilly skirts', Teddy Boys, bootlace ties, bouffant hair......we could go on!!!
What fun you must have had riding down the motorway in this gleaming, chromium plated spaceship!!!
Now I bet you turned heads! They certainly do not make cars like this anymore! Cannot wait to see the painting!
ReplyDeleteJane and Lance, it was fun, there is no a/c in the car and on a 108F/42.5C afternoon it added the nostalgia of those hot summer days of fifties in the South of USA. My friend in a beautiful hat and windows rolled down warm air hitting it was fun. The car rides very well, not a single bump.
ReplyDeleteDavid it sure turns a lot of heads. A lot of honks and thumb up signs from all around. Hopefully I will start work on the painting some time next week and will share it once it is done.

Thank you Jerome, every one likes this car, let me tell you it is more beautiful in person. The roar of the V8 engine very smooth acceleration and bump free and rattle free ride. For the age of this car, it is in a perfect shape.
